STRAIGHT COPPER COOLING PIPE 2 1/ 8 TALOS XS FOR CO2 RODS 5 MEASURES

Applications TALOS XS

Cooling

The growing concern of the environmental impact of HFC refrigerants as well as stricter environmental regulations, have caused a resurgence of carbon dioxide (CO₂) in cooling systems. CO₂ refrigerant is used as a fluid medium in many air conditioning systems, in applications such as commercial refrigeration, building air conditioning, hot water pumps, vending machines, etc. Especially, the supermarket industry has successfully implemented green stores, using advanced cooling technologies with CO₂ systems.

CO₂ as refrigerant

The CO₂ refrigerant (R-744) it is called a "natural" refrigerant, because it exists in the natural environment. Losses from cooling systems to the atmosphere have a negligible effect on global warming, so CO₂ has no regulatory obligations in the European Union, as in the case of CFCs, HCFC and HFC refrigerants. In addition to its environmentally friendly nature, CO₂ is now considered a viable solution for low temperature cooling applications, because it is non-ozone depleting, non-toxic, non-flammable and has a high volumetric cooling capacity. However, due to its physical properties, CO₂-based refrigeration systems require a higher pressure compared to conventional systems. The design pressure of these systems can be 120/130bar in the supercritical phase.

CO₂ meets the demand for low GWP (Global Warming Potential), but presents challenges both in implementation and handling. The higher operating pressure and wide temperature range require that all parts of a system, including piping, they should be properly designed.

High strength TALOS pipes XS for high pressure systems

The TALOS tubesXS are manufactured from a special high resistance copper alloy (CuFe2P) to meet the demands of today's high pressure CO₂ cooling systems, as well as other high pressure applications in the HVAC industry&R (Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration). The TALOS tubesXS are designed to withstand operating pressures up to 120/130bar. At the same time, the TALOS tubesXS are manufactured with comparatively thinner walls, thus achieving an economic advantage that meets the design criteria of the equipment. Standard copper refrigerant pipe installation practices are followed for the installation of TALOS pipesXS (see also the guidelines according to EN378). Since the processing methodology remains essentially the same, the existing tools and the handling of the equipment is done by the user easily and quickly, such as bending with power hand tools, the welding of the pipes with a standardized copper-silver alloy (minimal silver content 2%) and joining them with standardized copper-iron alloy fittings (CuFe2P).
